The roadshow arrived in Sydney with Treasurer Jim Chalmers delivering his ACCI and Business NSW Post-Budget Address. Treasurer Chalmers is confronting complicated global conditions on a number of fronts as well as the need to address budget repair, raising the spectre of politically difficult spending restraint.

ACCI members and guests heard from Dr Derek Bopping, First Assistant Director-General Cyber Engagement and Strategy of the Australian Cyber Security Centre which sits within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), a key national security agency. Dr Bopping was later joined by a select panel of cyber security experts.

ACCI invited members to hear directly from Professor Peter Dawkins AO, Director of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA).

ACCI had the pleasure of hosting the Hon. Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy after launching Australia’s first National Electric Vehicle Strategy. The Minister this week announced a new fuel efficiency standard – a first for Australia – and funding for EV charging. Australia is on its way to a more sustainable future.

ACCI members came together to celebrate the end of 2022 and to hear from Allegra Spender MP, Federal Member for Wentworth and a local business leader herself. ACCI thanks Ms Spender for her time, words of encouragement and advice to the business community – relationships matter: engage your local MP, bring solid ideas and have a clear ask.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed members and special guests at ACCI’s much-anticipated annual Gala Dinner. Close to 500 delegates made up of business and industry leaders, federal ministers, regulators, dignitaries and VIP guests came together at Australian Parliament House in Canberra for an evening of conversation and to enjoy a wonderful musical performance by Kate Ceberano AM and Noiseworks.

As part of ACCI’s General Council Meeting of Industry Association and Chamber Members at Parliament House, the Hon. Brendan O’Connor MP previewed the Government’s upcoming Jobs and Skills Summit. Members also had the opportunity to raise issues direct with the Minister during a Q&A session. In the evening, the Hon Sussan Ley MP provided the Opposition’s perspective

Harmony between ethics and profitability and how it can be achieved with a long-term perspective and a keen focus on reputation was the focus of our Better Australia Luncheon today. Our esteemed panel pushed forward the idea that, “if you’ve been lucky in life, it’s your responsibility and not your choice to give back.”

At the Business Leaders Summit delegates attended sessions focusing on the geopolitical economy, the new climate and sustainability agenda, the future of Australian technology and Australia’s post-pandemic workforce.
