ACCI welcomes fuel relief extension
Media Release: 21 June 2026
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) welcomes the federal government’s decision to extend fuel cost relief measures for another month.
ACCI Chief Executive Officer Andrew McKellar said extending the fuel excise and Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge cuts, albeit at reduced rates, is a sensible decision to help businesses operate through what is a still highly uncertain period.
“We have seen fuel prices come down, but the situation is still highly uncertain and businesses remain on edge due to ongoing pressures around fuel supply,” Mr McKellar said.
“Extending this support provides some welcome short-term certainty for freight operators and the many small and medium businesses that depend on them.
“Transport costs flow through the entire economy. When those costs spike, it pushes up prices and adds to the pressure businesses are already facing from weak demand and rising operating costs.
“The government should remain ready to respond if conditions deteriorate. Stability in fuel supply and pricing is critical to keeping goods moving and keeping costs under control.”
